Paintball

Paintball can be more physical than laser tag in that the paintballs hurt when they hit you and the scoring mechanism is usually not as sophisticated other than you can end up covered in colored paint. Paintball is typically played against opposing teams and offer plenty of variations of snipers, defensive redoubtments, and offensive attacks.

The important thing to remember in paintball is to organize your group in advance, talk about communication and general tactics and discuss safety – then discuss safety again and again. Considered a strategic game, paintball combines all of the senses in one gruelling and agonizing game. Players, upon arriving at the field, are given the option to rent rifles and weaponry or to bring their own. Many paintballers prefer to bring their own guns. This is because the rifles at the range are often very worn and cheaply made, resulting in poor accuracy and frequent jams, neither of which is good on the field. If you do choose to rent though, expect to pay a lot of money on the rental guns.

For safety reasons, the only thing you cannot bring to the field yourself is paintballs. You will have to buy them onsite but because they are sold in bulk, buying a couple hundred balls shouldn't be too expensive.

Paintball is usually played in two types of games. The first type is what's called speedball in which there is a small filed with inflatable walls and obstacles strewn across the field. Players are able to run and hide behind these obstacles as they shoot from around corners. The game is called speedball because the game often ends quickly considering the amount of rapid fire happening. Enthusiasts spend hundreds of dollars on their guns and get them to shoot up hundreds of balls per second. So as you're running across the field out in the open, expect the other team to be firing rapidly at you. For those not interested in getting pummelled in an out in the open style deathmatch of sorts, there's scenario paintball which incorporates many different outside atmospheres into one. Instead of running and gunning like in speedball, players often stalk their enemy in the woods or in abandoned building, making for a much slower and strategic game.

Whatever game you choose, be sure to wear the safety gear you're given or have and always be careful. Your safety is paramount and if someone gets hurt, the whole day could get ruined.
