Sport Fishing

Sport fishing is often called recreational fishing and is different from other types of fishing that usually involve fishing for profit. Fishing has been around for centuries and is one of the most primitive and basic forms of hunting or enjoyment out there. For those that have never fished, it is very easy to do. Recreational fishing involves taking a rod and reel, which is a long poll with string attached to it that is retracted and expelled via a device called a reel, and tossing it into the water. The fisherman attaches a piece of food to the end of the string via a hook and then tosses the line out into the middle of a lake or ocean. When a fish comes near the bait and latches onto it, the hook attaches to the side of fish's mouth. You then "wind" in the fish by spooling the reel and retracting the line. Compared to net fishing, which is used for catching many fish at once, sport fishing is much easier and more enjoyable.
Fishing is very cheap and a rod and reel can be picked up for as little as $15 or $20 depending on your area. Depending on where you decide to go fishing, you may need a permit. Fishing without a permit will result in a fine. Certain fish only mate during certain times of the year so keeping the fish that you catch that are out of mating season, or fish that are out of regulation, is both frowned upon and illegal. There are guides and books that can be purchased that outline what fish you can keep and when you can keep them.
There are often competitions for fishing that allow fishermen to go out into a body of water with a boat and in a certain allotted time period, catch as many fish as they can. Winning depends on various factors such as the weight of the fish and how many you have caught. Fishing competitions are a great way to have some fun with a family member.
Lastly, if you do not intend to keep the fish you catch, it is customary to toss it back in the water once you've reeled it in. Interrupting the delicate balance of nature by removing so many fish from the water may have serious consequences and the issue should be taken seriously.
