Whirlyball

WhirlyBall is the perfect spot to meet up with friends and colleagues or to plan an exciting event. WhirlyBall combines lacrosse, hockey & basketball with bumper cars. Teams try to battle it out for the most baskets. Not only a great activity for team building, WhirlyBall is fun for athletes and non athletes of all levels.

WhirlyBall arenas aren't very prevalent in the world and there are only a few courses in the United States. If you're lucky enough to find a city with one, the experience is unforgettable. Not many people have ever heard of WhirlyBall and it's almost guaranteed that even less people have played it.

WhirlyBall is made up of two teams, each consisting of five players. Players sit inside of specialized bumper cars that have power generators on the underside of them, instead of the traditional grid, to not interfere with the game play. By using a light ball, players drive around the bumper car arena with lacrosse sticks in hand and pick the ball up off of the ground and toss it into the possession of other players. Players drive around the court, passing the ball back and forth, just like players would in a soccer match. Once the ball has been passed along towards the goal area of its respective team, players toss the ball into a target hanging above the court, scoring a goal.

Because players are allowed to ram each other, the game can get quite rough. Some things, like ramming a player from behind, are not permitted though. While safety is considered important, the rules seem to reflect otherwise. Taking an "anything goes" approach to the game is key to its success.

You're probably never going to find a WhirlyBall court in your home town unless you live in one of the few major cities that host the sport. If you happen to be near one it could be a great story to bring back home to the family. With a child like atmosphere to the game, it can be great fun for everyone involved.
