Hiking

There is so much to see out in the wilderness that it's hard to take it all in on a daily basis. There's no better way to see all the world has to offer than to spend a weekend away from the house and going hiking. You may have to venture out a ways from your suburban neighborhood to find a good hiking spot, but there are often places just around the corner to explore. It doesn't take much to be a hiker, just a desire to see and a will to walk for a while.

If you live in a big city, you'll have to travel out into the country a ways to find anywhere suitable to hike. There are plenty of online resources with suggestions of where is good to hike and explore. You may even want to team up with some friends and go hiking together. It is always safer to hike in a group in case you come across some unfriendly wildlife.

In national and state parks there are often predetermined hiking trails that you can follow. They'll normally be signposted with their length and difficulty. Look to spend at least an hour strolling along these paths. Because they're outlined, they're much safer than venturing out into the woods by yourself trying to find your way back. Often times these hiking trails will lead you to good picnic spots or vantage points of the surrounding area.

For those willing to explore a bit more, hiking off the paths may also be a fun idea. Be sure to bring a map and compass with you if you do though. There are often cases of people that venture off of the path into the woods only to get lost and stranded. Also, be sure to bring good hiking shoes and water with you. There is nothing worse than getting dehydrated while on a hike and not knowing how far you still have to travel to get back to where you started.

You may also want to bring a tent with you on your hike so you can camp in the woods when you're done hiking. Be careful when hiking though. You don't want to disturb any wild animals that may harm you or trespass on someone else's land unknowingly.
