When you visit the beach for the day, apart from enjoying the relaxing sun and sand, you're more than likely going to want to head out onto the water and have some fun. Depending on your age, you may or may not be ready to try surfing just yet or you may even be interested in the thrill of the all ages friendly sport of boogie boarding.
Boogie boarding is a sport involves laying stomach down on a boogie board and riding the waves with it. Boogie boards are made from durable foam and are covered with a rubber like material that protects you from the foam and provides a very nice design. Depending on where you buy your boogie board and the quality of it, you may be look to spend about twenty dollars. Boogie boarding is very easy to do and requires you to swim out a good distance from shore, wait for a large wave to come from behind you, and "jump" onto the board stomach first. You hold onto the front of the board with your hands and if timed right, the wave will catch you and the board and bring you into shore. For the more experienced, there are also tricks that can be done. It is relatively easy to steer your boogie board and move it in and out of waves on your way back towards the shore.
Attached to the boogie board is a strap that you attach to your wrist or ankle to prevent the board from floating away in the event of a crash. Always make sure that there aren't any rocky areas around you when start boogie boarding because if you lose control, you don't want to crash into the rocks. You should also avoid boogie boarding in low areas because if you crash and get disoriented in the water, you may hit your body against the ground and get injured. Overall though, boogie boarding is extremely safe and there's no reason you shouldn't have fun doing it. It is a sport designed for everyone no matter their age. Along with a picnic at the beach and other water sports, boogie boarding is a cheap way to add yet another activity to your beach day.
