Hang Gliding

For those that are really looking for some adventure in their life and for those looking to get a different perspective of the world around them, hang gliding is the ultimate thrill. Man has always dream of flying since the beginning of time and after the advent of the airplane, we were halfway there. Planes don't capture the thrill of the open air and the wind in your nostrils quite like hang gliding does and for the ultimate rush of adrenaline, grabbing onto a hang glider and sailing across the vast expanses of land beneath us is truly a treat.

A hang glider is an unmotorized wing that pilots lie in or stand on as they glide around. These gliders are controlled by shifting your body weight or by controlling a joystick that moves the wing back and forth. When the first gliders were invented they were only capable of gliding downhill over short distances but now gliders are able to soar to thousands of feet and travel almost as far as you can see. Advances in technology have made hang gliding much more enjoyable.

Obviously, safety is always a paramount concern when you are hanging onto an aluminum frame and a wing. It is definitely not recommended that you attempt to hang glide without first taking lessons or going with an instructor. It is a very dangerous activity that should only be attempted if you are familiar with what you are doing and comfortable to fly. Safety gear must be worn should you hit the ground. This normally includes a flight suit and a helmet.

You can hang glide just about anywhere there is a cliff or mountain that allows you to jump off and soar outwards in a safe direction. Trees and power lines are any aviator's worst nightmare and avoiding them is always a good idea. There are various methods of control on a hang glider and they will most likely be reviewed by your instructor before you take off.

Hang gliding can be one of the most rewarding sports and activities if you're willing to spend the time to learn to do it safely and properly.
