Racquetball

Racquetball is a sport involving a tennis racquet like racquet that has flexible strings attached to the frame rather than rigid ones. The strings act as a handheld net. A rubber ball is also used. Players stand inside of a rectangular room with lines painted along the floor similar to a tennis or basketball court. Players toss the ball back and forth against the walls, ceilings, and ground in an attempt to get the other player to miss the ball when it comes to them. Also similar to handball, racquetball has been around for almost one hundred years and is one of the most popular sports today.

Racquetball is a very intense game and requires a substantial amount of physical stamina. The rules of racquetball are quite complicated and if you've never played before it would be in your best interest to take a training course or read a book so you're not completely oblivious when you step out onto the court. Once you have the rules down though, you should be set to play with others.

Racquetball and many other sports such as golf have gained a reputation as "business" sports. People often play racquetball when they're having informal business meetings and decisions can be made over a friendly and relaxing game instead of in the stressful environment of an office.

If you're looking to play racquetball, it may be hard to find a court in your nearby area unless you belong to a club for the sport or live near a gym. Gyms often have racquetball courts within their facility but because the sport is often a "higher end" sport, facilities for it are quite uncommon. You can look up a facility in your local phone book very easily though.

Court etiquette is a big part of racquetball, so it is best to brush up on your manners before playing. There are certain things that are considered courteous on the court and while it won't be the end of the world if you violate these unsaid rules, your actions may be frowned upon.

Overall racquetball is a very fun game to play with some friends or work colleagues. It will take a few games to get used to the rules but once you have the hang of it, you will be wanting to play at any opportunity you get.
