Snorkeling is popular all over the world and depending on where you are, there is more than likely a wonderful snorkeling location just off the coast for you to visit. There are so many natural wonders that lie beneath the ocean surface and if you don't take the time to explore, you may never see them all. From fish to coral reefs, there is never a shortage of things to see and if you snorkel more than once, you're bound to have a different adventure every time.
Snorkeling can either be extremely safe or extremely dangerous. When you start venturing out into the deep ocean without much experience, you're putting not only yourself at risk, but everyone with you. Stick to areas that you're comfortable with and that the guide says are OK. Snorkeling works by putting on a pair of swimming goggles, usually referred to as a mask, and a snorkel which is a small pipe, usually about twelve inches long, that you bite onto and it sticks out of the water, providing air. You breath through the pipe just as you normally would and blow out any water that makes its way into the pipe. You float on your stomach in the water and put your face just below the water level to see below the surface. As your head turns down, your snorkel pipe will face upwards, out of the water, providing an airway passage.
You can easily buy a small snorkel kit for a few dollars at a grocery store near the beach but if you're wanting to get the most out of your snorkeling adventure you can hire a tour guide that will provide proper snorkeling gear and equipment for you to use. The guide will know the area well and will be able to show you the perfect locations for fish sighting and coral reefs. You always have the option of doing it by yourself but if you're not familiar with your surroundings, you may waste a lot of time and energy trying to find interesting things to look at.
Snorkeling is a great way to spend a day with your family or friends while on vacation. You can explore all of the wonderful undersea life that surrounds us and get to know it a little better without much cost at all.
