Swimming

Swimming is an activity that is most enjoyed on a hot summer's day. And while other sports and outdoor activities require a court or specialized field, swimming doesn't. Wherever there is a body of water, you can almost be guaranteed that you're allowed to swim in it. All you need is a bathing suit and the knowledge of how to swim and you're ready to go.

There are two places that are most common to swim in. You can swim in a swimming pool, public or private, or swim in the ocean depending on your location. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. When you go on vacation you most likely won't have the luxury of a private pool but you will be able to swim in a public one. When you go to the pool, remember that it is shared by many people and that you must respect the area just as they do for you. Pools are usually found a the likes of a YMCA or in a hotel complex where you'd be staying. Be careful when swimming in a public pool as those not regulated by an organization, such as those found in hotels, do not usually have lifeguards on duty. So if you aren't a good swimmer or aren't confident in your abilities, don't swim.

The second place to swim is in the ocean. Anyone in a beach front area will most likely have access to a public beach. While private beaches and waters exist, they are expensive to rent and use. When swimming at the beach, make sure to stay in the shallow waters. It is very easy to get swept up in the ocean current and brought out to sea. You can also bring toys and surfboards to beach, allowing much more versatility in a day than just a public pool. Lifeguards are on duty at public beaches until the evening and they will advise you if and when it is safe to swim.

Swimming can be done almost anywhere and is enjoyed by people the world over. Remember to wear your sunscreen and make sure that if you have small children that you watch them around the water to ensure they don't fall in.
