Walking in the natural environment is referred as hiking. But it also involves walking long distances in difficult terrain conditions, which may even require walking boots. It has become one of the favorite outdoor activities of many people. While many go on hiking for the pleasure and fun of walking for long hours in the natural surroundings, others, especially the youth, regard it as an adventure.

Both men and women go on hiking. Its popularity can be gauged from the fact that many hiking trails have been established in many places and different agencies arrange hiking trips to provide the thrill and excitement. Short distance hiking can be completed within a day. But for long distance hiking, one has to carry the back pack with the amenities to camp at night.

Many of the popular hiking trails and destinations can only be reached by hiking – like the summit of a beautiful mountain. So, such destinations often excite and charge up the hikers. Since hiking is done outside, people, who have great affinity for nature, get attracted to go on hiking. So, hiking is one of the most endearing recreational activities of such people.

Hiking is also a very cheap form of recreation. What you need is just to wear a good pair of boots and you are ready to go on hiking to the nearest river side, top of a small mountain or the forest. Basing on your ability and capacity of endurance, you can decide about the distance you can hike. And before long, you would realize that you are addicted to it. Soon, you would want to lengthen the distance covered during hiking and also wish to take up the challenges of hiking on more difficult terrains.

One can go on hiking alone or in a group. If you cherish to interact with nature in silence, then you may go solo. But for that, you must be better organized, when you decide to alone to avoid any risks involved with it. Although hiking is a great way to be healthier and fitter, make sure you are physically fit to take up the strenuous activities. You should also take up the necessary training, in order to prepare your body, before going on hiking for longer distances.

So, when you have the time for it, go on a trip of hiking and enjoy the unique experience it provides.
