Easter is very spring on different Sundays. It reflects the Christian belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. For Christians, Easter is a day of prayer and family duties. The Feast of the Passover is especially kind to children, who are actively involved in painting eggs to hide around the house. Children are also visited by a fictional rabbit known as the Easter Bunny that delivers candy and gifts to the children as well as receive a gift candies and other sweets. The next day, Easter Monday, the president of the United States, together with his children, take part in the annual Easter egg hunt on the Lawn at the White House.
The history of Easter in America is not very long as the early settlers were Puritans or Protestants, who were not confirming to the ideas of ceremonies. In fact, the celebration as well as significance of Easter in the United States came into vogue after the Civil War. People found succor and comfort by the reviving and resurrecting the stories and ideals of Jesus Christ. The large scale killings and deaths had perpetuated an atmosphere of gloom. In this background, the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the celebration of Easter ushered in a sense of new beginning and hope in times of despair. And since then, Easter has been celebrated all throughout the United States of American with fervor and gaiety.
Although Easter is traditionally regarded as a festival of Christians, today, people from all walks of life, celebrate it in America. It is a federal holiday and people celebrate it with excitement. The children are especially are thrilled by the Easter Bunny, which is almost akin to the Santa Claus. They love the colored eggs, along with the chocolate and gifts it leaves behind. The elders in the family hide gifts and eggs and the children go on search for it.
The celebration of Easter in America begins with the ceremonial church services. Later, people invite friends and relatives to their houses or they congregate in the neighborhood and arrange parties and dinners. Mass parades with the candle or a cross are also held on Easter Sundays in cities like New York. Hundreds of people join it.
In New Orleans, the Mari Gras Carnival is held. During this famous festival, parades are conducted to the accompaniment of jazz bands. Similarly, the Easter is celebrated with its own local fervor in other places.
