Americans are incredibly religious. That does not mean that they sincerely believe and adhere to all requirements of religion though. Is simply a lifestyle. Religion is an integral part of the American mentality. In an international and diverse American society, you can find the adherents of any religion. Belonging to a particular religion or church is like belonging to a lifestyle and the scope of rights, thus, in the United States is almost impossible not to belong to any religion or religious group. According to the Washington Profile, the religion of Americans is: Protestant - 56%, Roman Catholics - 28%, Jewish - 2%, Muslim - 1% adherents of other religions - 3%, non-believers - 10%.
Most of the U.S. population is Christian. It is a great group is divided into an incredible number of churches, groups, religions and so on. For example, all American presidents (43) were Christians. According to the encyclopedia "Facts About the Presidents", 12 of whom were parishioners of the Episcopal Church, 8 - Presbyterian. Four of the U.S. President were Baptists, so much the same - Methodists and followers of the unitary churches, two - Quaker, one - Congregational. Also, two U.S. presidential parishioners were Dutch reformed Church, and two - the followers of the Church of Christ. All of these churches - Protestant. John F. Kennedy remains the only president in U.S. history-Catholic. Another three presidents called themselves Christians, not aligning themselves to a particular church.
36% of Americans interviewed by the magazine «Time» believe that the Bible contains the word of God transmitted by literary means. 35% constantly assess how developments in the world are linked to the ancient prophecies about the end of the world. 17% of Americans believe that the end of the world will come within their lives. 22% of the U.S. is constantly watching or listening to religious television or radio.
In one form or another, every religion preaches the service of people and charities. Churches and other religious institutions are the most actively supportive voluntary service to the benefit of local people. Nine out of ten parishioners make donations for charitable purposes; only 70% of the rest of the religious public does the same. Eight out of ten that belong to the church (78%) donate things to charitable organizations, including non-religious communities. The share is around 66%.
Religion inspires people to participate in volunteer service to their community and give charitable donations. Of the 76% of adolescents and young men claiming to belong to religious institutions, 62% were engaged in voluntary social work and 56% make charitable donations. Those who did not consider themselves to belong to any religion, much less engaged in social activities (44%) or engaged in charity work (25%).
