Connecticut - The small state in north-eastern United States has an area of only 5.5 thousand square miles and a population of about 3.5 million people. Despite its modest size, it is one of the oldest and most developed states. Under the Constitution, it is 5th state of the country, founded in 1788. The flag of Connecticut was adopted in 1897. It depicts bunches of grapes. The point is that the first settlers were husbandmen and came here from neighboring Massachusetts in search of fertile land.
The development of the state began with agriculture and trade, but Connecticut has begun to grow rapidly in the industrial plane. Major industries: machinery, transport equipment, metal and chemical industries. It is in this state such inventions as vulcanized rubber, sewing machines, calculators, matches, candy on a stick and spin (the whole world thanks this state and its brilliant minds) were invented.
The name comes from the language of the Indian tribe of the Mohicans and means «place around long river». Connecticut in 1959 was named «States Constitution». But many opponents of the theory of Fisk and historians differ on this subject until now. Also called the Connecticut Nutmeg State (State of nutmeg), Provisions State (can be translated as The State of food) and the Land of Steady Habits (Sustainable Land habits).

Connecticut is famous for the fact that on July 6, 1946 in the city of New Heaven, the 43rd U.S. President George W. Bush was born.

The capital of the state - the city of Hartford. In 1623 the Danes built a house here called House of Hope. Ten years later the British established a permanent settlement. The city was located on the Connecticut River which was suitable for navigation. The poet has become a major shopping center. Also, the city quickly developed the insurance business. The oldest in the United States, the Hartford Insurance Company, is in Connecticut. Actually, it originated in the city cultural life of the younger part of the state. It was released in 1764. One of the first American newspapers, The Hartford Courant was founded in Connecticut. In 1844 the first National Museum of Art Wadsworth Athenaeum (address: 600, Main Street) was founded. You can visit the home of Mark Twain (351, Farmington Avenue), a building company Aetna Insurance Co. (151 Farmington Avenue) - the largest brick building of colonial times. Also in Hartford in 1936 was the first skyscraper in the USA The Travelers Insurance Co. Tower Building (740, Main Street).
