Georgia Travel Guide

Georgia - This is the 4th state of the U.S. (since 1788), with an area of almost 60 thousand square miles; the population is more than 8 million people. The state is named in honor of the King of England, George II. The capital of the state is the city of Atlanta. 13 stars on the flag symbolize the first 13 states of America. The three pillars support the arch and denote the three branches: legislative, executive and judicial. 

Capital is Atlanta.

Georgia is called the «Peach State» for a large number of peach trees and a high quality product. The peach became the official fruit of Georgia in 1995. 

Georgia is recognized as the leader of poultry! Poultry farming is the main industry in agriculture and business staff. This bird harvest has a state income of about 2.5 billion dollars a year! Each year in Georgia you can see additional information at the International Trade Exhibition of the poultry industry (International Poultry Trade Show). 

The 39th U.S. President James Carter was born in Georgia. 

What to visit

Savannah Historic District - National Park. The buildings are 18-19 centuries in Gothic, Greek style. (E.g. Owens-Thomas House, Spencer Woodbridge House, King-Tisdell Cottage and others.) The park is open to visitors every day until 5-6 pm. 

Shoot-the-Bull Barbecue Championship - This contest is all about barbecue and is held in a small town in southern Georgia Civilian in the Hawkinsville Civilian Club. Funds collected during the contest, go to various children's funds. 

Atlanta Attractions

Atlanta History Center - Museum of the history of the city, state, and the Southern United States in general. It was founded in 1990 and is located in the area of Buckhead. The area includes the historic center: the museum of history, research library, two historic buildings built around a century ago, the house-museum of Margaret Mitchell, and several gardens. 

World of Coca-Cola ® - headquarters of the world's only museum dedicated to the most popular soft drinks. It has more than 1000 exhibits and narratives of the history of the Coca-Cola from its invention by Dr. John Pemberton in 1886 (the museum is open from 10 am to 6 pm seven days a week, the entrance for adults - $ 7, address: 55 Martin Luther King Drive, Atlanta). 

APEX Museum - a museum devoted to the history of African Americans in Georgia, their contribution to the development of states and cities, and the culture of this nation. In the museum you can see a lot of pictures, exhibits and video presentations. 

Six Flags Over Georgia - a park with a toboggan, and other attractions, designed in the spirit of animation studios Warner Brothers.
