Kansas Travel Guide

Kansas is the 34th State of the United States with an area of about 82.2 thousand square miles and a population of over 2.6 million people. It was founded in 1861. Business: transportation equipment, food processing, engineering, mining, livestock breeding, etc. 

The flag shows a Kansas sunflower - it is one of the symbols of the state. Also there you can see 34 stars (the number of staff) and the motto: «Ad astra per aspera» (Through thorns to the stars). More on the flag shows the state seal, where there is a farmer working in a field, a boat floating on the Kansas River, a train ride to the west, and Native Americans hunting bison. The flag was adopted in 1927. 

The name Kansas comes from the Sioux Indian tribe, the language of the expression «the people of the South Wind». And the official nickname of Kansas - «The State of Sunflower».

The capital of the state is the city of Topeka. The major cities include Wichita, Overland Park, Kansas City, Olathe, Lawrence, and others. 

Places of interest

Sedgwick County Zoo - in the city of Wichita. Opened in 1971, it is considered one of the best zoos in the United States. There are over 2000 species of animals. 

Boot Hill Museum - located in the town of Dodge City. Museum of the History of the western villages, reflecting the lifestyles of the 19 th century. In general, Dodge City is a city with many attractions in the nature of the Wild West. 

Carnegie Center for the Arts - also in Dodge City. The former Andrew Carnegie Library has very interesting architecture with a round two-gallery hall. There is also an exhibition center and gift shop. 

Dwight D. Eisenhower Library and Museum is in the city of Abilene. The museum tells the history of the family of Dwight Eisenhower from 1946 to 1898. There is also a library of D. Eisenhower. 

Old Cowtown Museum - Town Wichita. The museum is open air and visitors can find themselves on a farm in 1870. 

Lebanon Location - defined as the geographic center of the U.S. Geological Survey United States in 1898.
