Louisiana Travel Guide

The state was named after French King Louis XIV - King-sun. Louisiana was founded April 30, 1812 and is an 18-m state. Area Louisiana - about 52 thousand square miles. The population - some 4.5 million people. 

Louisiana is called the «State pelicans». The pelican is the official symbol of the state. It is depicted on the seal and flag of Louisiana. Another symbol of Louisiana is the magnolia. They are very proud of the state motto: Union, justice and faith (Union, justice and confidence). 

The economy is based on the state of the chemical industry and oil refining, Agriculture: seafood, sugar cane, rice, livestock. Tourism is also a large part of the state's economy. 

The largest city of Louisiana - New Orleans. The capital - the city of Baton Rouge. 

What to see

French Quarter - the old town area where you can admire the old architecture, visit the antique shops and museums, or even ride on a carriage. 

National D-Day Museum - a museum devoted to the history of World War II and the American soldiers who fought in it. 

Preservation Hall - a historic musical theater, created to preserve and develop the culture of jazz. It was opened in 1961 at the residence built in 1750. There are various musical and theatrical performances. 

Audubon Zoo - one of the best zoos United States. (Asian elephants, Malay bears, Bengal tigers, alligators and much more.)  

Baton Rouge - wonderful mix of all that is in Louisiana, from the vibrant and diverse musical heritage to Kayene, Creole and Southern cuisine. This town is notable for its historical sites, museums and other attractions as well as its legendary hospitality! 

Baton Rouge River Center - multipurpose facility for various performances, concerts, show programs, fairs and sporting events. The Center is located on the bank of the Mississippi River. It consists of three main shells: Arena, Exhibition Hall (exhibition hall) and the Theater for Performing Arts (theater). 

BREC - tourist center, established in 1946, is a member of the NRPA (The National Recreation and Park Association - National Association of Parks and Recreation). It consists of 182 parks that offer entertainment for all ages.

Plantations

Louisiana was a slave state with a large number of plantations. Now most of them have turned into museums or places of sports competitions. But there are also those where the descendants of planters live.

Blythewood Plantation - the city of Amite, 400 Daniel Street. It is a big mansion full of family values and Victorian antiques. Also, there is a restaurant that specializes in seafood and steak.

BREC's Magnolia Mound Plantation - reconstructed 1792 French mansion with a garden and other buildings. (2161 Nicholson Drive, Baton Rouge).

Butler Greenwood Plantation - Plantation in 1790 entered the National Register of Historic Sites United States. Victorian-style buildings, antiques, live oaks (8345 US Highway 61, St. Francisville).

Catalpa Plantation - inhabited mansion, which is open to visitors. Antiques, Chinese porcelain, family silver, portraits of family members and other values (9508 US Highway 61, Saint Francisville).
