There is another version of the origin of the name of: Maine translates to English as a «core», ie this is the main land as opposed to the many islands surrounding the state. 

Today Maine is famous for potatoes, lobsters, and submarines - an unusual combination! Farmers are famous for the excellent state of "white potatoes, which they grow. Omarov are caught in large numbers and in local restaurants they are made into wonderful dishes. The first nuclear-powered military submarine - «Fish sword» was launched in Maine. The state is rich in water resources and forests. Fishing companies and the community support the economy of the state, in addition, fishing in rivers is a popular local sport.
