Virginia is located in the Southeastern U.S. It was identified as the tenth state of U.S. in 1788, it covers a landmass of about 40,600 square kilometers and its capitol is located in Richmond.

The geographical features include the coastal plains, the Blue Ridge and the Appalachian Mountains and the rivers like the Potomac, Shenandoah, James and Roanoke flow here.

The three important cities of Virginia are Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Chesapeake.

The region is important from many aspects, it has the highest population of employees in the U.S. Federal Government, is the center of many military bases, government agencies and organizations. It is a famous summer destination.

Monuments & Historical sites – Virginia provides a great insight into the past historical events and archaeological interests. Tourism has largely developed because of the attractions of historical places like Colonial Williamsburg, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Appomattox Court House, Agecroft Hall, Maggie Walker Historical Site, The Historical Triangle, The College Of William and Mary, Civil War Historical sites and battlefields, General Robert E. Lee’s House, Arlington National Cemetery and many others besides.

National Parks – The Shenandoah National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway had been alluring visitors since their incorporation. Other natural parks include the Crabtree Falls situated in Nelson County and the Natural Bridge in Rockbridge County

Theatres – Theatre IV is quite impressive. Byrd Theatre is also a major attraction.

Golf – Golfing is a major sporting activity in Virginia.

Food & Drinks – The local cuisine charms many visitors of Virginia. The Chesapeake Bay region offers seafood delicacies. The Highland County Maple Festival is an important food festival, which attracts food buffs from far and wide.

Vineyards & Wineries – There are tours and festivals for wine lovers. Virginia Wine Festival is quite famous. Virginia has as many as 130 wineries making available an irresistible wide range of tastes.
